Salt and Light

This morning as I read this passage..."Therefore if you have any encouragement from being united with Christ, if any comfort from his love, if any common sharing in the Spirit, if any tenderness and compassion, then make my joy complete by being like-minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and of one mind. Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others," Phil 2:1-4., I was struck with a simple thought - "HOW OFTEN DO WE STEP OUTSIDE OF OUR COMFORT ZONE TO SHOW CHRIST TO OTHERS?"

Some may call it a "random act of kindness" or "paying it forward," I choose to call it what it is - being a light in a dark world. God has called each of us to be different, to be set apart, to be a city on a hill that cannot be hidden...to be salt and light.

There are times when those acts of kindness are the thing that someone needs to change their day from gloom to gladness; from lost to found; from a frown to a smile; from no hope to eternal hope!

As you go through the rest of your day today and the week ahead, ask God to reveal to you someone that needs to see His Light through you. Be purposeful about it...look for the guy counting his change at the checkout counter buying his morning cup of coffee; the lady in the line at Walmart whose child is wanting that piece of candy but she can't buy it due to a tight budget; the person sitting in the corner of your local eatery/restaurant that seems lost, alone or struggling; the person who walks in front of you at the Post Office and doesn't seem to be "present" even though they are there. Buy their coffee; that candy; their meal; give them your place in line. Look them in the eye, smile and just simply say "God Bless" or "God loves you" or maybe go out on a limb and ask "Can I pray for you?"

There's a wonderful old saying..."Love is the only thing that increases the more you give it away." Christ proved this when He gave His life for us...return that love by being Christ to someone who needs to see Him!
