Who Is Your Whosoever?

One of the most famous verses in scripture - and probably the one that most children raised in a Christian home learn from the moment they can speak - is John 3:16.

"For God so love the world that He gave His only begotten son, that WHOSOEVER believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life."

This morning as I read through that verse in my quiet time, it struck me how I have always individualized that word - WHOSOEVER - to mean me, my family, my friends, those that are close to me, the lost person in church, the wayward father, the hurting mother, etc. That simple word has brought peace to me knowing that there is no where too far, too deep, too low that God will not rescue me from and bring me home. All that is required of me is that I call upon His name!

Then it struck me. He struck me!! I may be the only person that some other WHOSOEVER comes in contact with that can be His hands and feet and show them the love of Christ. When that happens, how do I react?

You see, when we love God with the reckless devotion and passion that He calls us to have, He is always going to bring people into our paths that need to see His love through our actions. Some of those people may be nice looking, good smelling, well behaved family members, friends or acquaintances.

But what happens when that WHOSOEVER is someone that I don't necessarily like?

Someone that doesn't necessarily smell good?

Someone that's dirty?

Someone that I don't think is worthy of His love?

If I really believe that John 3:16 means WHOSOEVER - including me - then I should be radically excited when He uses me to further His Kingdom. Whether it be with someone rich or poor; someone nice or mean; someone intellectually amazing or someone that is rather simple minded; someone old and wise or someone young and dumb; someone who bathes one to two times a day or someone that is lucky to bathe once a month; someone in great health or someone on their death bed; someone in a 3,000 square foot home or someone lying on the streets homeless.

I'm thankful today that God counted me in that crowd of WHOSOEVER.

The challenge now is will I be the one who without question or hesitation, stops daily for WHOSOEVER
